Brief Description: Shortly after the M-Day, in which the overwhelming majority of the Earth’s mutant population was de-powered, three middle-ages hippies in San Francisco, nostalgic of the idealistic 1960s, come across an amnesiac Martinique Jason aka Mastermind, who has retained her powers post-M-Day. Martinique sees straight into the hippies’ hearts and re-imagines herself as a ‘flower child’ while generating a citywide illusion that transforms San Francisco into a late 1960s version of itself. In the present, Martinique finally recovers from her amnesia and sends Angel, Hepzibah, Iceman and Warpath, all four now fully under her control, to go find Cyclops and Emma Frost – the couple meandering through the streets of San Fran – and fight them. Meanwhile, in Russia, a government official has captured Colossus, Wolverine and Nightcrawler and tortures them, curious to know why the X-Men retained their powers post-M-Day whereas Russia lost all her mutant agents back then. After the three X-Men escape, however, the official decides to utilize his ultimate weapon, a captive that goes by the name… Omega Red. However, Omega Red slays the official after the latter frees him and prepares to fight his longtime hatred enemies, the X-Men. Full Synopsis: San Francisco How long ago it was that Ron, Eli and Delilah met the Goddess? They can’t even remember now. Just that it was right after they saw the news about all the mutants disappearing… (flashback) Three middle-aged hippies, Ron, Eli and Delilah meander aimlessly through the streets of San Francisco. Eli remarks that the recent decimation of mutants is a total bummer; it’s like the world just can’t allow anything different… “Or beautiful” Delilah adds. She wonders if her companions can remember what it was like when they thought the world was going to be beautiful. Smiling, Ron admits that he can’t remember ever being so naïve – but then, he has some memory issues! “Yeah, ‘cause of all that self-medicating,” Eli teases him. Ron pretends to be angry and wonders if Eli’s going to get judgmental of him. Eli explains he was kidding. “Oh, because I was gonna say, you’re in no position to be pointing fingers at…” Ron mumbles, continuing his ‘act’, when suddenly Delilah’s voice cuts him short: “Guys!” Delilah urges the two men to come and help her as she leans above a young woman who has seemingly passed out on the sidewalk. Delilah tries to help the young brunette get back on her feet, thinking the woman’s hurt. As the brunette slowly regains her consciousness, Eli asks her if she’s okay. “I don’t… I can’t… What happened…? I can’t feel them… I can’t hear them… Where did they all go…?” the woman rambles in a weak voice. Delilah asks her who she’s looking for. The woman admits she doesn’t know. Delilah wonders whether the woman hit her head. The young brunette, visibly disoriented, again repeats that she doesn’t know… she doesn’t know anything… Delilah deduces that the woman is hurt and they need to get her to a hospital. “ No! No hospitals! No normals! ” the woman cries, obviously repulsed by the idea. “Hey, I hear you… the suits running these places are like Nazis…” Eli agrees with her reaction. However, he wonders what they are supposed to… Right at that moment, the young woman – the Goddess – looks into the three hippies and speaks to their inner selves; she sees their potential and what she could do for them. In an instant, she spreads her touch of ‘magic’ – and the three, middle-aged hippies seemingly turn young and beautiful again, while their benefactress generates a green dress for herself, her head now wreathed with flowers: she has become a ‘flower child’ herself, just like the three of them. An enchanted Eli mutters that the woman could come with them – if that’s what she wants. The Goddess believes that would be best; she urges Eli to show her the way. Behind them, a perplexed Ron scratches his head, wondering whether he’s tripping or something. Delilah admits that she doesn’t know… now she’s the one confused. However, she admits this feels real. Ron realizes it’s the woman… she did something… she changed the world. Delilah retorts that she just changed them … but she thinks she gets it. She explains to Ron that the woman is like the key to the other planes of reality… As days pass, the changes the Goddess made in the three hippies don’t fade away. Instead, days become months and Ron, Eli and Delilah begin to notice other changes around them. They now know that the Goddess is “blessing” the whole city, more and more of the citizens becoming ‘flower children’. Ron, Eli and Delilah know that everything will finally become like it was, like it always should have been. They will live in the past like a dream… They will live forever and nothing will change and disappoint them again… like it all had. (present) “What did you say, Goddess?” Eli asks her. The woman utters a single word: Martinique. “Excuse me?” a puzzled Eli exclaims. The woman explains that’s her name, Martinique… she just remembered that. How funny, she thinks; she was thinking about those X-Men and she… she thinks she knows something about them , too. “Like what?” Eli wonders. “Like I know it wasn’t me they were looking for” Martinique explains. Smirking, she thinks it’s time they met some of their new arrivals… Meanwhile, in the Red Room, in Russia… Wolverine, all four of his limbs chained, his hands in manacles, clenches his teeth, trying – in vain – to keep himself from screaming with pain, as electricity surges through his restraints and throughout his entire body. The torture ceases for a few seconds… and then it resumes. The captor of Colossus, Wolverine and Nightcrawler, a middle-aged Russian government official, assures Colossus – the latter also in shackles – that he’s not going to run out of electricity. The official also observes that Colossus’ friend – Wolverine – is not going to die anytime soon, either. “I’m not telling you a thing,” Piotr defies him. “You’d like me to keep showing Wolverine my brand of pain, then?” the official snidely remarks. Piotr encourages him to go right ahead; he’s sure Wolverine can handle it. Hearing Piotr say this, Logan, barely managing to flash a smile, remarks that this isn’t cool… And then he winces in pain as he is electrocuted again. The official exclaims it’s such a waste; all of them, X-Men, are a waste of potential. He is disgusted to see they’re not patriots to the countries they were born in or to the one where they reside. In frustration, he wonders: is there nothing they believe in? Piotr defiantly replies – in English – that tyrants like him should be crushed; does that answer the man’s question? The official is disgusted that Colossus won’t even answer in his mother tongue. However, he recalls that they had true patriots in their mutant program here at the Red Room. His own protégé, even, was of their kind… he was like a son to him. And then one day, over a dozen highly-trained men and women were simply useless; enhanced strength, X-ray vision, mental telepathy and many other valuable mutations had just disappeared. They thought they’d been targeted, of course, until they began getting widespread reports it was happening elsewhere… all over the world. However, the official notices that the X-Men seem to have survived this purge. That seems strange to him. It makes him wonder: did the X-Men somehow engineer this M-Day? Piotr retorts that’s insanity. He insists they help mutants. The official admits that so it is said… Yet, his mutants are dead, while Piotr and his friends seem as powerful as ever. “Dead? All of them?” a puzzled Colossus exclaims upon hearing this. He admits that he’s only heard of a small number who died from losing their mutations. The official repeats that these were patriots… So, when they saw they had no more purpose… “Well, I think you still have enough of Mother Russia in you to understand how they must have felt” the man adds, alluding at their doomed fate. Fall of the Mutants was an event in which dramatic changes were made to the status quo of the X-men, X-Factor and New Mutant Teams. This cross-over featured three ongoing x-titles, X-Men , X-Factor , and the New Mutants . X-Men Storm was depowered, she was also the Leader of the X-Men at this time. She was on a mission to find Forge a mutant inventor whom she hope could find a way to restore her former power. This led the rest of the X-Men on a journey after her, the ended up crossing paths with Freedom Force , in Dallas,Texas. The Freedom Force was led by Mystique , and were a government supported team of ex-villains. Mystique and the Freedom Force were under strict orders to sub-due the X-Men for they had failed to comply with the rules of the Mutant Registration Act . The two groups engage in a super-powered battle. In the midst of the battle the mutant known as Destiny catches a small glimpse of the near future. The vision show that everyone inside of a particular Skyscraper in Dallas will soon be dead. Then when the weather changes to snowy in the middle of July in Dallas, as well as prehistoric creatures and other monsters begin to randomly appear, both teams realise that something of grave importance is going on. They put aside there differences for the time being and co-operate as one team to try and restore the balance. Elsewhere Storm and Forge are in a new world where time moves at an accelerated rate. while only mere minutes pass in real time, Storm and Forge spend a year in this altered time. allowing Forge the time he needs to build a device that restores Storms powers. Forge and Storm combine their Magic and Lighting respectively to open a portal back to the real world and to Dallas. Back in the city with the X-Men, the X-Team learns of something Forge did in the Vietnam War that created a being known as the Adversary whom is behind the madness and utter chaos surrounding them. Storm, Wolverine , Colossus , Rogue , Longshot , Dazzler , Psylocke , Havok , and Madelyne Pryor all end up having to sacrifice their lives just as destiny had foreseen. The sacrificed themselves using Forge's Magic to banish Adversary. Seeing that that the X-Men gave their lives to save humanity the goddess Roma granted them all their lives back as well as the ability to be invisible to any-means of detection other than plain sight. She also gave them the Siege Perilous which give the X-men the ability to reset time. X-Factor Cyclops , Marvel Girl , Beast , Iceman and Caliban are transported aboard the evil mutant Apocalypse 's where they are then offered the once in a lifetime chance of being on of Apocalypse's team to aid in his war against the humans. The X-Factor team refuses Apocalypse's offer and is the pitted in battle against his four horsemen, Death is revealed to bet the long thought deceased Angel , now re-born as Archangel . Archangel quickly and easily defeats the entire team, and restrains them all except for Caliban, who had now offered his services to Apocalypse in return for stronger powers. Caliban also begins to refer to himself as Archangel. Apocalypse then turns his sights on New York City, and begins his attack. The young team known as Power Pack shows up and helps in defending the city, minimising damage and casualties. This allows Iceman to form a plan to defeat Apocalypse. Iceman then attacks Apocalypse only to have his most powerful attacks easily repelled. Although Apocalypse fends off Iceman with ease, his airship is badly damaged, and his horsemen defeated. He withdraws before suffering further losses. New Mutants Cannonball , Cypher , Magik , Mirage , Sunspot , Warlock and Wolfsbane , all go to visit the island of their good friend Bird-Brain . While their the team learns that Bird-Brain's creator the Anti-Mator is creating new life and doing cruel experiments on them. During their Rescue attempt the team is interrupted by the Right who shoot and kill the language mastering mutant Cypher when he dodges in front of Wolfsbane saving her.eventually Bird-Brain and Magik defeat the Right and the Anti-Mator, by using Magik's abilities to transport the villains to Limbo . "Divided" is a comic book arc running through issues #495-499 of Uncanny X-Men. This arc is a Divided We Stand tie-in! Creative Team Writer - Ed Brubaker Penciller - Mike Choi Inker - Mike Choi Colorist - Sonia Oback Letterer - Chris Eliopoulos Covers - Mike Choi (#495, 496, 497, 498), Billy Tan (#499), Marko Djurdjevic (#497, 1 in 50 variant) Synopsis The X-Men are no more! Or they aren't until issue #500 of The Uncanny X-Men . After telling Iron Man that the X-Men are no more (not permanantly, just for a while), Cyclops takes a well earned break in the Savage Land with girlfriend Emma Frost , and even meet up with friends Ka-Zar and Shanna . Wolverine , Nightcrawler and Colossus venture through Europe, and Angel discovers something weirds going on in San Francisco: the whole place has been taken back to the 60s! As Emma and Cyclops travel to San Francisco, Angel is stuck in the 60s: revealeed to be some sort of pshycic projection. In Europe, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Wolverine visit are in Russia visiting Colossus's parents grave. They visit a bar and after a heart-to-heart, get into a bar scrawl. They decide to leave, but some trouble is brewing on the horizon... Cyclops and Emma enter the projection, so enter: HIPPY CYCLOPS AND HIPPY EMMA! But Emma isn't exactly a fan of the love children's fashion sense! And over in Europe, Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Colossus are in trouble with the Red Room. But these aren't another government unit bent on destroying mutants, this unit wants to know something about the Decimation ! As Colossus is being questioned on the Decimation, he refuses to give up the truth, even as they constantly torture Wolverine! But, Nightcrawler has a plan up his sleeve, and the three escape, only to be confronted by an old villain! And in San Francisco, Emma and Cyclops follow a lead to a trap, which they're aware of, to find certain people at the end of it! The conclusion of Divided We Stand is here! As Emma and Cyclops battle they're way through hippie Hepzibah , Angel, Iceman and Warpath , Emma finds the source, and they take this person out, causing the city to revert back to normal, and in doing so, find a new home for the X-Men! “The Extremists” is a five-issue comic book arc running through issues #487-491 of Uncanny X-Men. Four of these issues include the back up stories tied-in to the crossover Endangered Species. Creative Team Writer – Ed Brubaker Penciller - Salvador Larroca Inker – Salvador Larroca Colorer – Frank D'Armata Letterer – Chris Eliopoulos Synopsis In the sewers beneath New York, Masque and some other Morlocks kidnap Leech and hurt Caliban . As Nightcrawler and Professor X talk, Hepzibah and Warpath have a little training session outside. Caliban turns up on the grounds badly injured, but before ONE can take him in, Storm shows up and puts Caliban under her protection. Professor X and Nightcrawler plan to go and find Magneto , while Warpath, Hepzibah, Storm and Caliban enter the sewers. They find a precognitive book written on a wall, displaying possible outcomes for the future. The Morlocks unleash a bomb a Bliss ’s venom, knocking out a train full of people, while Masque mutates the people. Masque broadcasts his attack all over the internet, while Professor X and Nightcrawler continue to look for Magneto. Storm and the team use the Baxter Building ’s map of New York to look for possible hiding places of the Morlocks. They enter a building to find a bunch of SHIELD agents dead, and Skids buried under rubble, revealed to be an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. As the team fight a Sentinel, Nightcrawler and the Professor continue to search for Magneto. The team decide to go back into the sewers to find the Morlocks. After splitting up, Warpath and Hepzibah are caught by the Morlocks. Storm, Skids and Caliban visit a group of followers of the book when the roof collapses and leaves them trapped. The Professor and Nightcrawler arrive a bit to late to help the team who have been captured by the Morlocks. Masque prepares to kill every person in a church above when Storm breaks free, and frees the others, and they beat the Morlocks. Skids takes the precognitive book (written by Qwerty ) and gives it to Magneto: With a rhetorical question leaving us to wonder whether Magneto has his powers back or not. Issues 488-491 include chapters 2, 6, 10 and 14 of the Endangered Species crossover. Magneto has liberated the mutants of Genosha and claims the island country as his own. Now he sets his sights on the rest of humanity. Can a ragtag group of X-Men recruits stop him? Magneto has taken control of the island country of Genosha and established it as a haven for mutant kind. As he builds an army of mutants, he kidnaps Professor X , who he holds responsible for the death of former Acolytes member, Colossus . Colossus actually sacrificed himself in order to release the cure to the Legacy Virus . Unfortunately, the X-Men have been splintered as a result of recent events. The current team consists of only Jean Grey , Wolverine , and Cyclops . While Scott and Logan infiltrate Genosha, Jean sets out to recruit a new team. Eventually, she assembles Northstar , Wraith , Paulie Provenzano , Sunpyre , Frenzy , and Dazzler . Upon reaching Genosha, the new X-Men engage Magneto in Magda Square, joined by Cyclops and Wolverine. The battle rages until it is revealed that Professor X has been freed by Amelia Voght , a former coleague of Xavier and current Acolyte of Magneto. Surprised and disheartened by this betrayal, Magneto allows the X-Men to leave, but vows that Genosha will defend the safety of mutantkind by any means necessary. In a parting shot, Wolverine stabs Magneto in the stomach. Upon their return to the X-Mansion, the new X-men go their seperate ways.
